This year, the Archon Alumni Association is gearing up early for the 12th annual Archon Classic.  When Charlie Kunkel and Kim Nye assumed the role of chairing this long time Archon autumn event, they already knew about the Elks Golf Course in Portsmouth Ohio, built in 1924 and designed by the famous golf course architect Donald Ross.  This years Classic will take place on Saturday, October 2.  For those who wish to come down early, an extra day of golf is planned for Friday, October 1 at the Shawnee State Park course, located just a few miles from the Elks course.

“We need to promote the Archon Classic to our brothers who have not yet experienced this unique and exceptional day.” Said Kim.  “The surrounding hills, the colors of the fall foliage and just the golf course itself, are spectacular.  Put that together with a bunch of old fraternity brothers, well, that’s what makes it a classic.”

“Please feel free to include family or friends,” Charlie added.  One non-Archon player sent Charlie this unsolicited testimonial.

“ I can tell you this…I had a blast playing in it last fall and unless my wife is having a baby, a family member or best friend is getting married or dies, I plan to play in it every year.”

“Kim and I are excited and looking forward to hosting our largest money event of the year for this 12th Annual Archon Classic. We have started the corporate hole sponsorships with the giving of Gordon Food Services (GFS) again supplying food for the Friday event and putting us in their marketing budget for the coming year for the golf tee sponsor and others.”  We are very appreciative of those folks who have supported the Classic with sponsorship in the past.

Dear Potential Archon Golf Classic Sponsors

Re: 12th Annual Archon Golf Classic

Archon Alumni Association is proud to present the 12th Annual Archon Classic!!  This year’s festivities will take place again at the beautiful, newly renovated and premier Elks Golf Course in Portsmouth, Ohio.  The course consists of an exciting 18 holes providing wonderful tournament plays for our Alumni and guests.  The event will take place on Saturday October 2nd, 2010 starting at 10:00 am.

Once again this year, we are excited about the ability to raise monies that will benefit the Dean S. Brown Scholarship Fund at the University of Rio Grande.   This year the Archon Classic is tax exempt for all corporate tee sponsorships.   Due to the present economic conditions, the Archon Classic Committee has, in an attempt at our own “economic stimulus package”, decided not to raise our corporate tee sponsorship from the 2009 levels (corporate sponsorship $200.00 and individual sponsorship $100.00).  This will still enable us to be generous to our beneficiary and once again present a memorable and high quality event for our sponsors.   All sponsorship checks should be made out to Archon Alumni Association and be mailed to Charles E. Kunkel 721 14th Street, Ashland, Kentucky  41101.

If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact Charles Kunkel at 937-545-2282 or Charles_Kunkel@Hotmail.com.  We look forward to hosting another Archon great event and with your support another successful Classic to support the scholarship fund.

Sincerely,

Charles E. Kunkel – Co-Chairman and Kim Nye-Co-Chairman Archon Classic
